CEDA Dredging Days 2012

Introduction to the Conference

12-13 December 2012, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Dredging is an integral part of many projects in the coastal and offshore zones. In the 21st century, it is no longer sufficient to view dredging as a separate exercise, but part of the whole planning and execution process encompassing "Virtue, Venture and Vision". "Virtue" in this context is environmental awareness and concern. Successful developments increasingly take account of environmental factors at the planning stage of the project, building these into innovative project design. Working with nature in this way, rather than attempting to impose on it, allows the achievement of long-term sustainable solutions. "Venture" is the development of the coast for commercial purposes, benefitting the local and regional economies. "Vision" is the long-term planning development for aesthetic reasons, creating a sustainable future which supports and delights those living and working in the coastal zone.

The opportunity of holding CEDA Dredging Days 2012 in Abu Dhabi allows the knowledge and experience of the dredging profession to combine with that of those working in the extensive projects in the Middle East to provide an enormous synergistic potential. CEDA Dredging Days 2012 will bring together a multidisciplinary group of experts to present the newest results of their activities and to discuss opportunities for further co-operation and innovation.
